Let the imagination take off -
Changeover at Rotary Club of Auckland South

When President Erica handed the Rotary Club Presidential Chain to incoming President Madison, it marked the 9th year of this
migrant base Rotary community is marching forward on the avenue of greater sustainability.

The ceremony of 108 fellow Rotarians, friends and families, was cited by prominent VIPs from Consulate General of Republic of Korea, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Auckland Councillors, and Mark Anderson, Major Gifts Officer from the Rotary International South Pacific and Philippines Office based in Sydney.

President Madison acknowledged the fabulous performance in the leadership of IPP Erica for her presidential stint, also highlights the club commitment on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) with emphatic appreciation.

To deliver the new Presidential theme of Imagine Rotary, the Club introduced its freshly awarded dancing programme from recent "Rotary Got Talents" to all the participants, which presented the unlimited imagination that any Rotarian can accomplish also demonstrated our Diversity in ethnicity, Equity in project initiatives, and Inclusion on fellowship and partnership.

Together, the club celebrates its changeover and more importantly, embraces all the possibilities for any Rotary projects that change the world in good causes. That will be the core of new leadership by President Madison.

20220624 Rotary's Got Talent

2021 - 2022 D9920 Rotary's Got Talent

For this years Rotary’s Got Talent event, D9920 The Rotary Club of Auckland South present our entry showing our Rotarians performing a contemporary Taiwanese aboriginal dance with traditional aspects intertwined within.

In the aboriginal culture, dance is all about life and is closely linked to their social traditions shown through the movements and clothing worn. Auckland South Rotarians joined together to learn and practice this dance which was choregraphed by their own.

Rotarians are people of action, and much like aboriginal tribes who find strength in unity, we use this strength and energy to serving our local communities and the world.

Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

Auckland South had a fun and joyous time preparing this dance and video together with each other.

20220624 Thank you - Rotary’s Got Talent

20220624 D9920 Conference - Rotary's Got Talent

Daisy
【Rotary’s Got Talents】
1. Rotary -
2. Talent -
Team Work”.
We are Rotarians & We are Talents.
Daisy 😊❤️🌈🦋

20220306 PE Training Notes

PE Madison 2021-22

Imagine Rotary

Membership

  • Inclusion
  • Diversity
  • Equity

5)Club

Rotary Donor Recognition

story thumbnail

Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member

Benefactor

Paul Harris Fellow

Paul Harris Society

Major Donor

Arch Klumph Society

Be Safe
Be Kind, and
Be Generous

Truly honored to receive Major Donor from RI Foundation, and am proud of being the first receiver of this recognition in my club.

Each donation has its own value to deliver a commitment to change this world. What really brings us a joy is when we are able to deliver it at sustainable basis.

There is a saying from Kate Sheppard: “The rain that refreshes the parched ground is made of single drops.” We can be generous to contribute more rain drops of donations that making our world a better difference.

Last thing I wanna share with you is
Be Safe
Be kind and certainly  Be generous.

Yours in Rotary

中醫學院可以選擇Full Time跟Part Time.

A Plan - From Madison

20220130 Crab Fishing Workshop

2022/01/30 Crab Fishing Workshop

Rotary Club of Auckland South was pleased to work with Drowning Prevention Auckland having the crab fishing workshop at Uretiti Beach, Waipu.

There were 32 persons including members, family and friends attending this workshop. Besides crab fishing, we learned more knowledge about water safety and had practical drill on site. Many thanks to Waipu Police, the crab fishing expert Eric and Ruakaka Surf Life Saving Club supported this workshop too.
It was a day full of fun, laugh and surprise, especially having practical drill in the water.

20211212 Christmas Party Time

2021/12/12
It was our Christmas Party time. Members and families got together at Botanic Garden for picnic.
Although the weather disappointed us a little bit, we tasted the Cafe brunch meals and had snacks which we brought with later.
Chatting, laughing and kids’ yelling and running. A short walk in the patchy rain was not bad.
Merry Christmas to everyone.

20210926 Happy Birthday to PP Janet

"Happy Birthday to PP Janet"

On the 2 Sep 2021, PP Janet was invited to share her life story during our Zoom Meeting whilst we were in Level 4 lockdown in Auckland. She shared many stories with us. She spoke of her childhood, adolescent years, romances, the schools she had graduated from, her career and work. She also told us about her experiences of immigrating to New Zealand. Solely one hour was much too short to hear her whole life. All of us hope to one day hear more.

PP Janet immigrated to Vietnam with her parents when she was in intermediate school. There, she experienced the horrors of the Vietnam War. She studied incredibly hard in school and her most important achievement was to learn fluent English, which would help her significantly in work and later in life.

She began attending the night school of Taipei First Girls High school when she moved back to Taiwan. Following this, she majored in Chinese in the Department of Chinese. I thought it was impressive for her to major in Chinese first because she had spent most of her time studying English when she lived in Vietnam. Just a short time after, she transferred to the Department of English. She went on to receive the highest mark in English at her university graduation. This was a testament to her capabilities and wonderful work ethic.

Peking Opera – the photos of PP Janet where she is wearing the costumes of Peking Opera surprised me. I had not known that she was involved in the opera as a university student. Her photos show a beautiful, charming, attractive young girl. PP Janet did her own make up for the roles she played on stage. I like the Peking Opera. It uses the skills of speech, song, dance, combat in the way of movement, as well as Chinese music instruments. It is truly a traditional cultural treasure of Chinese Art.

PP Janet is grateful to her dad who sparked her love for the Peking Opera. She shared with us the photos of her and her dad, these captured moments showed when she was performing on stage with her English teacher and friends when she was at University. She was charming and looked so professional. During university, she joined various different societies not only Peking Opera, but also the Drama society amongst others. She took on a multitude of important roles, including performer, MC and group leaders in the university Societies.

Not only was she busy studying and performing at school, but PP Janet also had the time to fall in love. Her now husband was also an outstanding leader in the school. Most groups that PP Janet joined were girls’ groups. But he followed her every moment that he could. He became the only male in the group. Their story was one of romance and devotion. PP Janet married him a couple years after she graduated from school.

The first company PP Janet worked in was the AIR ASIA Company Limited in the South Taiwan (Tai Nan). She has since worked in Wang Laboratories (Computer technician company) (HsinChu, North of Taiwan) after she married and had children. Then when her boss started his new business, Siemens Telecommunication Systems Ltd (Taipei, North of Taiwan), he invited PP Janet to work for him as an important secretary to run the business. Because of this, PP Janet has had to travel back and forth for work from South Taiwan to North Taiwan for the last 10 years.

PP Janet has had many experiences in a diverse range of workplaces. But she has always had outstanding performance at work, no matter what the role is. From a secretary at the first company, to the secretary of general manager and R&D commentator in Wang Laboratories, she has also had commendable experiences being the helpers for English speaking guests and government officers. We can see from the photos that showed PP Janet at her work, just how hard she worked and the effort that she put into doing her jobs well. It also showed us the confidence that she had in herself as well as her clear enjoyment and pride in her work.

PP Janet has been an executive secretary, a commentator, a foreign guest receptionist, a English translator, the company spokesperson, the general manager, Public Relations Manger… etc.  We have now learnt about the reasons for she could do everything so wonderfully. She is a creative talent who has done many projects successfully. One of the projects she mentioned which gave a strong impression and that she received good feedback from was the “Looking for outstanding staffs in campus – the FIRST TOUTH with Siemens”.

One thing that shocked our mind and souls as we followed the journey through her life, was the moment that PP Janet mentioned the “AIR CRASH” in 1985. It happened on the way while she was travelling to attend the Main office meeting in Phoenix, U.S. She showed us the photos of the accident – the flight was flying at risk and they were forced to get off the plane in San Francisco. She refused to get on the plane in the U.S. because she was so scared. But as she felt that she had a responsibility, she still went to the meeting. The photo that she has, where is a business proposal of more than hundred pages while standing outside the conference room made me realise just how incredible a woman she was. She has had such a “Colorful” and “Worthwhile” life.

I always enjoy attending Rotary Meetings as it gives me the opportunity to listen to Rotarians or Rotarian’s friends sharing in their experiences of work, life and family. It always makes me appreciate how everyone has lived such diverse and vibrant lives. It is the same feeling that I had at this zoom meeting. PP Janet’s story is interesting, enjoyable, and dramatic which only makes me want to know more. We all expect to hear from her again in upcoming meetings.

20210902 Daisy的感想 (PP Janet's Story)

President Erica

PE Madison

PE Madison 的感想

Madison

20210724 Tree planting  with Ellerslie Sunrise Rotary Club

Tree planting
It was such a lovely day in Waiatarua Reserve, Auckland New Zealand today. It is the 4th year that our club has joined the Rotary Club of Ellerslie Sunrise for tree planting in this park. We saw the trees that we had planted in previous years having now grown much taller with lots of birds flying around them. It was amazing to see. We truly appreciate what the volunteers have achieved over these years. You can watch the video attached to see how much we have enjoyed and appreciated being part of this volunteering. Thank you to the Rotary club of Ellerslie Sunrise for organising this event.

20210721 Visit Auckland Harbourside Rotary Club

Visit Auckland Harbourside Rotary Club
Speaker and Author of Book - Believer Conversations with Mike Moore: Peter Parussini

Peter Parussini,
Time:/時間:6:30pm for 7:00,
Address/地點:NZ Royal Squadron, 181 Westhaven Dr.

Introduction at the back of book:

MIKE MOORE was once described as 'World Famous, but not in New Zealand'
The untold story of a poor boy from rural Northland whose early ambition was to run the local petrol station but who went on to play a crucial role in the transformational fourth Labour Government, became prime minister and then the highest-ranked New Zealander on the global stage as the director general of the World Trade Organization, and later was an ambassador to Washington DC.

Author Peter Parussini was the last person to talk in depth with Moore about his extraordinary life. Many of Moore's old friends and foes also shared their recollections with him.

Believer: Conversations with Mike Moore is more than a book about politics and international diplomacy; it's a New Zealand story about overcoming odds regardless of who your parents are, where you grow up and what schools you attend. It's also about hard work, love and loyalty, determination and dedication.

'I saw a man who was a prolific writer, who was an incredible thinker, who was generous to the end with his ideas and intellect. I saw a man who was a true believer until the end.'  - Prime Minister Jacinda Ardem

It’s hard to believe time has gone by so fast and that this Rotary year is coming to the end. on Sunday 30th July, Immediate Past President Janet voiced how it has been a privilege and where she has been inspired. "A big thank you to the committee and all club members for their generous time and financial contributions towards Rotary services and projects we have worked on together." Janet recently come back from attending Rotary International Convention for the first time in Hamburg, Germany and shared one thing that deeply touched her. By attending such a grand scale international event and being surrounded by more than 20,000 like-minded enthusiastic Rotarians, it helped to redefine your goals and values.

From "be the Inspiration", we move forwards to continue our good work under President Walter's leadership to "connect Rotary to the world".

7 club executives from Auckland South attended the LETS on 19th May in St Cuthbert's College. The full day session accentuated Rotary's new theme and related strategies also focuses. Following the changes in the forthcoming years for D9920, the stronger demand to connect to the world will motivate Rotarians for more inter-club engagement for greater projects in both international and local as well as more effective chemistry assisted by technology through Club Runner.
7 club members also participated the group sessions on different portions for club operation to deep dive the insights, and highlighted the efforts to youth related projects, which will be one of the key focuses for next year to experiment the connections with high schools, universities and educational institutes to either help contributing communities or cultivate future leadership. Happy Birthday to our Club! Rotarians of Auckland South Club cheered for the 5th anniversary in Alexandra Restaurant. Nice foods and drinks served the celebration, a slideshow of photo album to retrieve the footpath that the Club has been coming through, and each member shared 2 most unforgettable moments in their Rotary service.

President Janet speech the look-back on her Presidential service 2018/19, sent her gratitude to members who contributed our projects, fund raisings and  volunteering. It was exceptional to establish this club in New Zealand on its migrant base, then it progressed to learn how to be a genuine Rotarian also being proactive in District 9920. The Oxygen Project is simply a milestone because there will be many more great projects for us to work with other Club for accomplishment. By relaying to PE Walter soon, our heritage and passion will be continued for next gracious chapters.

With cakes and toasts, Janet led everyone making a wish for the brilliant future of our club, surrounded by Rotary Song.

Our honour from District Conference in Napier

It started from a comprehensive "Review and Preview" to further understand the RI vision, strategies, directions through status of our District, as well as retrieving what D9920 has collaborated and accomplished at many aspects. The colourful Napier embraced Rotarians not only an amazing conference but also local cultural varieties with many unexpectedness.

One of the biggest unexpectedness was undoubtedly the award of Club Project Excellence to honour our Club! The Shooting for Oxygen is marked an experience-design innovation to engage the empathy for a great cause, which lasted for 6 months with a number of signature moments to work with cluster clubs and more. The cohesion throughout club members has been booming even if we were not certain about the performance outcome in the beginning, and now it turned to a glory of being recognised and further motivates our club to contribute for next year.

A book title of "Reading the Riot Act" summarising 200 years history of Justice of the Peace in New Zealand, presented the cultural and social changes which has been always demanding the service value of JP to cope with; therefore becoming a Justice of Peace is never easy with high entry barrier through rounds of assessment but also a continuous learning to reflecting the diversified cultural needs to better serve the public.

AG Gabby visited RC Auckland South with PDG Willard. They joined the post-event review of Cultural and Charity Night hosted by President Janet, as well as being presented by Secretary Madison about his outtakes from departed RLI training, then the visionary views by PE Walter for his incoming presidential stint.

Some important directions were given by AG Gabby about new vision for Rotary with new theme of "Rotary Connects the World" to accentuate the connectivity and dedication. "Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change - across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves." We were encouraged by AG Gabby to be active members and involve ourselves in projects and just by doing what we think may seem to be ordinary Rotary activities, we are the source of inspiration and have impacts far greater than we might ever imagine.

Meanwhile Frances Lee from Malaysia came to courtesy our club as an observer. He used to be a Rotarian club member in Kuala Lumper for 3 years and now relocates to New Zealand with family. We hope a new member opportunity for him to further enrich our culturally diversified positioning.

On Saturday 6th April in Panmure, Mt Wellington, the 260-attendee Cultural & Charity Night hosted by Rotary Club of Auckland South, gathered fellows from D9920 Leaders, Clubs members from Remuera, Harbourside, Otahuhu and Papatoetoe Central, together with a wide range of 14 Asian major communities, friends of Rotary and sponsors. The enjoyment not only came from the entertaining elements like dances, but also profoundly celebrated the cause accomplishment of  "Shooting for Oxygen" to support The Fiji Oxygen Project in a great cause, as well as an awarding ceremony for five new members in Paul Harris Society and induction for three new club members.

Janet Lee, President of Rotary Club of Auckland South, highlighted the delivery of "Be the inspiration" in each of our project this year, as well as an appreciation for all the club members on their dedication, cohesiveness and passion. Meanwhile the cultural diversity performance was further enriched by presenting live fruit carving arts and subsequently reached out for auction in success. Club presence is now more visible while we are striving to learn and explore Rotary at many more aspects.

Rotary Club of Auckland South volunteered the DUAL iron man Marathon in Motutapu, an island of conservation area opened for only 2 days every year. The beauty of volunteering was not just serving the players in different off-road running routes but simply an enjoyment from its various landscapes across the island, as well as fellowship and friendship. Volunteers needed to take ferry off at dawn time and returned to the wharf around sunset, undoubtedly being exhaustive, but it apparently was an exceptional experience for every participant there.

This is an exceptional experience: Started from a cozy reception to enjoy the chats and finger foods, Ms Julie Sexton, Executive Director of Dove House, walked Rotary members through a bucket list journey that the Dove House can be serving, as well as the No 32 Dove for Rotary Club of Auckland South on the celebration wall to jointly celebrate life, love and being of service.

Our funds raised in the last 2 years have been translated into facilities and being in service. Ms Sexton accentuated the future plan for Dove House to serve broader range of patience including Asians, she does sense the distinction on culture, religion, tradition across the ethnics and she expected a chance to work with our club for deepened project collaboration in the foreseeable future.

More than a toy for childhood, the Floating Ball Set symbolised the experience for lack of Oxygen to associate the needs for devastating kids in Fiji as averagely 200 of them aged under 5 could not be celebrating 6-year-old birthday by new born illnesses in the past few years. President Ashiwini from Harbourside gave accolades of a great initiative by Auckland South Club also a strong motivation to engage many clubs to participate by either fund raising, volunteering or social buzz for promotion.
